Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song and Story Player

Parent Review of the Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song and Story Player

Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song & Story Player
Right before the Christmas holiday, I spent some time looking at toys for children for the long car trip to see Grandma and Grandpa. While I wouldn’t bother doing anything special for a short car trip, a fourteen hour trip in the car would be suicide for us if we didn’t have something to keep the girls happy for most of the trip. We made that mistake last year and oh did we regret it! To say the least, we now have an arsenal of toys that always come out in the car for any trip that is over an hour.
With our budget, I had to be careful just how much we spent on toys. My hope was to find toys that would last through multiple children whenever we were on the road or staying in hotels. So far, I have been quite pleased with how many of these toys have held up. Two of the first toys we got for our daughters were the Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song and Story Player, and the Portable Disney Princess DVD player. After having had these toys for nearly five months, here is what we think so far of the Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song and Story Player.

Ease of Use of the Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song and Story Player

Unlike other kids players that my husband and I researched, the Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song and Story Player is very parent friendly. While it does not let you easily Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song & Story Playermove over MP3s directly to the player, it is very easy to convert your music over to the player through their software. It doesn’t matter if they are MP3s or CDs, the player will easily convert them to an FP3 format. If you don’t have any songs, don’t worry, there are plenty of free and paid songs on the Fisher Price Online Content Store that are very easy to download.

As well, there is plenty of growing room with the Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song and Story Player. It has 128 MB of memory, and has an SD card slot, allowing you to add even more songs if you like through an SD card. The Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song and Story Player also comes with six music tracks and two preloaded stories. While my daughter likes the stories, she isn’t really crazy about the music. I won’t complain since they came with the player for free!

Kid Friendly Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song and Story Player

Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song & Story PlayerOne of the things I love so much about the Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song and Story Player is that it is just so kid friendly. Kids can really feel like big kids with this music player. With big buttons, kids can easily manipulate this player and move from song to song. It also has a small LSD screen that is backlit, making it a little easier for kids to tell what they want (mostly stories or music). These icons for helping kids pick songs are very simple, but it seems to work well for non-reading toddlers.

What I also liked about the Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song and Story Player is that it is volume controlled. It cannot go over a certain volume, making sure toddlers don’t accidently ruin their hearing or drive parents insane. Along with the cute neck strap and kid friendly headphones, kids really feel like big kids with this player, and I have heard more than once my little one saying she has an IPod just like Mommy and Daddy!

Quality of the Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song and Story Player

Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song and Story PlayerAfter months of use, I am happy to say that theFisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song and Story Player is still running and working perfectly. My youngest has dropped this player down the stairs, thrown it on the floor in temper tantrums, and probably even more that I don’t know about. The Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song and Story Player has a very rugged design and is a bit bulky. Since it has to survive a preschooler, however, that is 100% necessary. If you have a toddler or preschooler, you know that kids are hard on just about everything! I wasn’t exactly sure if I wanted to believe that Fisher Price drop tested this toy, mostly due to the fact that I had purchased Fisher Price toys in the past that fell apart in a matter of weeks.

I really only have two complaints with the Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song and Story Player – the headphone’s are cheap and it goes through batteries faster than any other toy in our house. The headphones are really only a minor issue. It is nice that they are made especially for toddlers, but we had to eventually superglue the little pads on the headphones to keep them on since we were finding them all over the house! The big issue, in my eyes, is the fact that it feels like we are constantly changing the batteries on this toy. Thankfully, we use rechargeable batteries in our household, and nothing is easier to find than AA batteries if you have a meltdown in the car. As well, the toy tries helping a bit with this problem, by auto shutting off if it hasn’t been touched or played with.

What Others Think of the Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song and Story Player

If there is one thing I can say about the Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song and Story Player, it is that it really makes my youngest daughter feel like a big kid. Now, she is no longer harassing my daughter for her MP3 player, causing fewer fights in the car and in our house. For this reason, I can agree with the rating it has on Amazon – a four out of five star rating. The only reason I can’t bring myself to give it a five is the fact that it is a drain on batteries. We aren’t the only ones who have fallen in love with the Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Song and Story Player. Here is what other parents and grandparents have had to say about this children’s music player…

” I really do love this item. The songs that came on it were terrible, but it was easy to download my own. I even downloaded some from the fisher-price site. Also very easy and not expensive. My son loves some Top 40 type songs and country music: Aint no other man, Riding Dirty, Fast Cars and Freedom. I put a different icon for each song so he can easily (visually) scan his FP3 for the song he wants. I even put the theme song for Wonder Pets and he was so excited. I have one for my 4 yr old daughter also. She likes the stories best, but again the stories that came with the FP3 were terrible. I downloaded some Dr. Suess stories and the songs for my son and she loves hers too. Terrific item and we have had no problems. Thanks Fisher Price.”
” I got this for my 6 year old son with moderate autism. what a god-send! he uses it every day, for several hours. i bought the speaker accessory so he doesn’t have to use the head phones all the time. it is so easy to change the song list. he is able to use it independently, except for pushing the song vs. story button. the icons and ability to customize the icons have made it so he can quickly search for what he wants. i found the drawing screen for the icons challenging at first- but even me with my lack of artistic talent was able to accomplish the task so he knows them. i would give this my highest recommendation- very tough player- dropped who knows how many times- yet keeps going. the best thing i’ve purchased for him in a very long time. well worth the money.”
” This is my four year old son’s “favorite toy”. I have loaded his CDs and downloaded stories from the FP3 website. The interface for loading and downloading is parent friendly. It is also easier to use and faster than my iTunes software. There are some great stories offered in the FP3 store, including some for which we already own the books (e.g. How Do Dinosaurs Clean Their Rooms, Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ear, Dr. Seuss classics, etc.). If your kid likes popular music there are several Kidz Bop collections also available. I was able to choose the few songs he likes for $0.99 instead of buying the whole CD at the store for $15.00. My son has no problems navigating the player and can easily figure out how to get from stories to songs. I would suggest parents not uplaod every song in your collection if fast fowarding and navigating is a problem. You can store the playlists on your computer and upload manageable playlists of say 10 or 15 songs. I think this is a great toy for durability, education, and fun.”
