Parent Review of the Athena Daphne Convertible Crib and Changer

Athena Daphne Convertible Crib and Changer
Have you seen the Athena Daphne Convertible Crib and Changer? Over the past week, I have been looking at various baby cribs. Why have I been looking at some many cribs you may ask? Well – my little sister just found out she is having another baby! My little nephew is thrilled and excited about having a little sister or brother. The big problem is that he is still using his convertible crib, forcing my sister and her husband to buy another crib.

After searching on Amazon, we decided to buy her three favorite cribs.  While I thought her idea was crazy at first, I realized that the grandparents would need an extra crib too, making it seem not so crazy. The first crib that arrived, I have to admit, I fell in love with when I saw it online – the Athena Daphne Convertible Crib and Changer. Here is what we think so far of this adorable baby crib!

Assembly

As odd as it may sound, the Athena Daphne Convertible Crib and Changer is the easiest crib I have ever had to assemble. The directions are clear, precise, and its built with the understanding that you don’t need to be a carpenter to put it together! With just the two of us girls putting the crib together, we were able to fully assemble it in about an hour and a half. This is with taking frequent breaks to check on my son and play with my little nephew. Best of all, the crib doesn’t have drop down sides, which I can tell you, I am glad they took off the market. I could easily see a pregnant mom being able to put this together herself, which I consider a major plus for this crib!

Design

What I love the most about the Athena Daphne Convertible Crib and Changer is that it is elegant without taking a great deal of space. I am usually a sucker for very simple but nice cribs since they are perfect for families who aren’t sure if they will be having a boy or a girl. My sister didn’t really have a lot of room in her nursery for a second child, so it was nice having a crib that had an attached changing table. Best of all, the Athena Daphne Convertible Crib and Changer has a lot of storage. We found that the crib has three drawers below the changing table and another two wide drawers under the crib itself. This doesn’t count the two nooks that are on the changing table as well. This crib easily gives parents enough storage for a minimalistic nursery.

The only problem we found with the Athena Daphne Convertible Crib and Changer is that it requires an odd sized changing pad. Measuring the changing table, we found that it has a 27 1/2 by 15 1/2 inch surface, being much too small for a standard changing pad. We recommend going with something that is on the smaller side. We found the LA Baby 4 Sided Changing Pad 30, White fits perfectly. Or you can find smaller changing pads at most stores and they are usually cheaper than a standard sized changing pad.

Usability

As those of you who follow this blog know, I love convertible cribs. They let you get the most use out of your crib and keep you from constantly buying new beds throughout your baby’s childhood. The Athena Daphne Convertible Crib and Changer can be converted into three beds – a crib, daybed, or a youth bed. From what we had seen, converting to the different beds is very easy. All you need to buy are mattresses and a bed frame when they are needed.

Like all high quality cribs, the Athena Daphne Convertible Crib and Changer is made using a non-toxic finish and is JPMA certified. From everything I have seen, it follows standard government regulations and everything we consider necessary for a quality, safe crib.  As well, the crib is made from sustainable pine wood, making it a fairly inexpensive eco-friendly convertible baby crib!

What Others Thinks

From what I have seen, I absolutely love the Athena Daphne Convertible Crib and Changer! I am amazed that this crib is being offered at such a low price! In the past, I paid much more than this for cheap cribs that didn’t last the first two years! I could easily see this convertible crib lasting a family through at least the first six to seven years of a child’s life!

From what I have been reading, we aren’t the only ones who have fallen in love with the Athena Daphne Convertible Crib and Changer. Currently, it is one of the few cribs on Amazon that has a 5 star rating, making it perfect in most consumers eyes. Here is what people are saying about this convertible crib:

” This is a beautiful crib. Fairly easy to assemble. Shorter folks (I’m 5’2) will need a stool to get infant in and out until the baby can sit up and reach. But worth it if storage, craftsmanship, and safety ( no drop side) are important to you, lots of nice storage – great for room sharing! The conversion options will mean this bed will last until 4-5 years of age. Note you’ll need a smaller than average changing table pad (order one that is sized smaller). Shipping resulted in one small dent in wood, fixable with wood glue. (why can’t shippers wrap inside the box better since all of the delivery services bang these things around)! All in all, I gave it five stars because it is as close to exactly what I wanted as one could get for the price.”

” I wasn’t sure about ordering a crib for my baby on the way online without seeing it in person first, but I am so glad I took the risk. I love this crib. Its cute and has ample storage and looks exactly as pictured. The changing table is smaller like other reviews have stated but is still really nice. My only complaint might be that it has only one mattress position which is really low and can’t be raised and I’m 5’5 and can’t reach all the way in without a step stool or something. That part doesn’t bother me much for now though because my son will be sleeping in my bed for the first few months in a cosleeper, so by the time I actually have him sleep in the crib it should be easier to get him in and out. The other little problem was with it getting a scratch/ding in it from shipping it but it doesn’t affect the safety or anything else really, its just cosmetic…Overall its a great crib for the price and great if you have to have it in your room or just don’t have the space for all the nursery furniture but still want it all!”

” I received this crib as a gift from my brother. It arrived on time and it was very well wrapped and boxed. At 8 months pregnant, I was able to put most of it together by myself – after I got my husband and 4yo to put the drawers together in another room =). Instructions were easy to follow and I was done in about 2 hours (with frequent breaks!). Please note that the attached changing table is not standard size. I purchased the LA Baby 4 Sided Changing Pad 30″, White and if fits perfectly. =)”

Where to Purchase

Since we have plenty of time until the baby is born, we decided to purchase all of our cribs online. Even though there are baby places in our community, they are usually twice the price of online retailers and they don’t keep the cribs in stock. It seems better to have it shipped directly to our house anyways, especially since not only crib boxes will fit in our SUV with the car seats. After a bit of research, we found that Amazon had the best price on the Athena Daphne Convertible Crib and Changer. Since I am already an Amazon Prime member, this seemed like a win-win for us! Why wouldn’t you buy a crib from somewhere with amazing customer service, low prices, and free shipping!
