Review of the ULTRASCALE MBSC-55 Digital Baby Pet Scale and the Health O Meter Grow with me Teddy Bear Scale

ULTRASCALE MBSC-55 Digital Baby Pet Scale

Since my newborn son was having trouble gaining the correct amount of weight I found my self reviewing the Ultrascale MBSC-55 Digital Baby Scale and the Health O Meter Grow with me Teddy Bear Scale. As a mother that breast feeds, nothing is more frustrating than trying to determine if my son is gaining the right amount of weight. During his first few months of life, we were going to the doctor constantly, trying to determine if he was the right weight. My daughters seemed to latch on properly and had no issues breast feeding. Of course, since I had such an easy time with them, my son decided that he was going to be challenging when it came to breast feeding. Since the extra visits to the pediatrician were becoming expensive, we decided it was time to get our own baby scale.

Health O Meter Grow with me Teddy Bear Scale When I first started looking for a scale, I never imagined how difficult it was going to be to find a scale. I thought it was going to be as easy as just going to a local retail store and picking up a cheap scale. I found quickly that the other scales available in my area were over $200, something I refused to pay. Eventually, I found the Ultrascale MBSC-55 Digital Baby Scale and the Health O Meter Grow with me Teddy Bear Scale. Unsure which scale would be best for us, I ordered both of them from Amazon and have been using both of these scales for my kids. So far, here is what I think of the Ultrascale MBSC-55 Digital Baby Scale and the Health O Meter Grow with me Teddy Bear Scale!

Accuracy of the Ultrascale MBSC-55 Digital Baby Scale and the Health O Meter Grow with me Teddy Bear Scale

Like many women, I consider a scale my worst enemy. I had never found two adult scales that gave the same weight, making me very weary of buying a kid’s scale at first since I was worried it wouldn’t have the same accuracy as those in the doctor’s office. Both the Ultrascale MBSC-55 Digital Baby Scale and the Health O Meter Grow with me Teddy Bear Scale were both known for their accuracy, so I was determined to try them both out and see which one gave the best reading. To my surprise they both gave the same weight as the doctor’s scale!

Both of these scales can give a baby’s weight in pounds, ounces, grams, or kilograms, and can very easily be converted to any of these measures. As well, they are very easy to digitally auto calibrate. When we needed to calibrate our scales, my husband just put one of his twenty pound weights on the scale and we were good to go (we know you should buy a special weight, but we thought this was silly). One of the biggest differences we found was the capacity of the scale, with the Ultrascale baby scale having a 55 lb capacity and the Health O Meter Scale having a 60 lb capacity.

Ease of Use of the Ultrascale MBSC-55 Digital Baby Scale and the Health O Meter Grow with me Teddy Bear Scale

What is nice about both of these baby scales is that they come with a variety of features. Both of these scales have a hold function, to make it easier for getting the weight of squirming little babies. These scales both also have a programmed auto off, and a tare/zero function for zeroing out clothing and diapers to get an accurate weight for your baby.

Health O Meter Grow with me Teddy Bear Scale One of the areas where the Health O Meter is different from the Ultrascale however is the fact that this scale has a large, easy to read LCD display that measures about 1 inch to 1.5 inches. While the Ultrascale has a detachable display, the Health O Meter Grow with me Teddy Bear Scale is still much easier to read. As well, it is fun that this scale is meant for babies and toddler, since it converts from a tray scale to a platform scale that looks like a cute teddy bear, accommodating growing little kids who want to feel like big kids!

The only thing I don’t like about the Ultrascale MBSC-55 Digital Baby Scale and the Health O Meter Grow with me Teddy Bear Scale is that they both run on batteries (which are not included with either). Both of the scales are very difficult to take the batteries out of and don’t come with an AC Adapter. Only the Ultrascale is capable of running on an AC Adapter, and this is sold separately. Since most baby scales and food scales seem to have this issue, I guess it isn’t too much of an issue.

Extras with the Ultrascale MBSC-55 Digital Baby Scale and the Health O Meter Grow with me Teddy Bear Scale

One of the things I loved about both of these scales is that they both came with so many items and could be used for a variety of different purposes. The best scale that is designed to be used for multiple functions is the Ultrascale MBSC-55 Digital Baby Pet Scale. While it does have a special cradled weight tray for newborns, infants, and toddlers, it can very easily be used to weigh mail or pets as well. This is one of the most commonly used scales for veterinarians and breeders since it is an inexpensive scale that gives an accurate reading for even the smallest of animals. For pets, all you do is use the cradle tray and you are good to go!

In our house, we now use the Ultrascale MBSC-55 Digital Baby Scale as a mail scale since it came with so many neat shipping attachments!

In the box, you get:

  • A Baby Basket
  • Regular Mail Tray
  • Letter Holder
  • Mail Tube Holder
  • Base Extension (better for pets or large boxes)

Health O Meter Grow with me Teddy Bear Scale While I love the Health O Meter Grow with me Teddy Bear Scale, I think this scale is mostly just for kids. With it’s cute bear design and the fact that it can be used as a traditional standing scale for kids, it makes it great for toddlers as well. While the Ultrascale came with a bunch of attachments, the Health O Meter Grow with me Teddy Bear Scale just came with a nice growth chart to see where your child falls compared to the national average of other children in the nation. If you are wanting just a normal kids scale, this scale is likely perfect for you! I am currently still using this scale to check my son and youngest daughter’s weight.

What Others Think of the Ultrascale MBSC-55 Digital Baby Scale and the Health O Meter Grow with me Teddy Bear Scale

In our household, my husband and I both love the Ultrascale MBSC-55 Digital Baby Scale and the Health O Meter Grow with me Teddy Bear Scale. The scale that is likely the most used however is the Ultrascale Baby Scale since we can use it to measure other items in our house. On Amazon, however, the Ultrascale Baby Scale has only a 4.2 out of 5 star rating. I personally think the scale should have a little higher rating, but I can somewhat understand it with the scale not coming with an AC adapter. Currently, the Health O Meter Grow with Me Teddy Bear Scale is more popular with a 4.9 out of 5 star rating. Here is what other people have had to say about the Ultrascale MBSC-55 Digital Baby Scaleand the Health O Meter Grow with me Teddy Bear Scale

Ultrascale MBSC-55 Digital Baby Scale

” I purchased this scale to use with my infant to monitor how much breastmilk she is taking in per feeding. It is very accurate. It has also been used to weigh food and various other small scale items. I would definitely recommend this scale for anyone who needs a good baby scale.”
” This scale is so easy to use and is so compact. I love the accuracy of this scale and the display window. Great product for the money!”
” Because of health issues my 6 month old son is on a feeding tube and until recently was diagnosed Failure to Thrive. His weight is a big concern and it’s great to have this scale to keep on eye on how he is doing day-to-day. The weights seem to be pretty accurate and the ‘hold’ feature is great for such a squirmy baby. It’s great to be able to have pound, ounce, kilogram and gram measurements since the doctors normally want his weight in kilograms and we have a daily goal for his weight in grams. The only other thing I wished that it had is a memory feature to remember his last weight. And also the tray for the baby seems smaller than a lot of other trays.. He still fits in it now, but I really don’t think I could put a toddler in it even though the scale goes to 55lbs.
Overall it’s a great scale to have, especially if you have weight concerns (great for breatfeeding moms who want to know just how much their baby is getting!!)”

Health O Meter Grow with me Teddy Bear Scale

” We recently received our scale and are very happy with it. It seems to be well made and has some nice features. We especially like the zero out ability so that we can put a blanket under the baby and still get an accurate weight. In addition the hold button allows us to get an correct weight on our squirmy toddler by averaging the last few readings. The day we received it my son had a doctor’s appointment and this scale read the exact same weight as the one at the doctor’s office. Well worth the money.”
” It is a very convenient baby scale and easy to read the readout. However, the surface is too hard for a soft baby head. It has a zero out function and a towel is placed for placing the baby head. Other than that it is a very good scale. Even after 30% discount, the price is still much higher than a household scale (around $30). If you really want to track your baby’s weight, that is worth it. My little dinosaur has an acid reflux and needs a close monitoring of his weight.”
” This scale is terrific, and has brought me much peace of mind. As a breastfeeding first-time mom, I was anxious about whether my daughter was getting enough to eat, especially since she had a difficult time regaining her birth weight in the beginning. Being able to check her weight once a week is a great relief. Caution, do not check your baby’s weight too often (like each day) because the scale is so sensitive that whether or not your baby has had a bowel movement that day can affect the reading. Since infants gain about an ounce a day, checking one a week will give an accurate picture of if the baby is gaining or losing weight in total. The scale is light enough to carry in one hand (baby in other), low enough to slide under a crib and relatively inexpensive.”

Where to Purchase these Baby Scales

At first, I couldn’t find anywhere in my area that had baby scales. Eventually, I found that a retail store that had scales in the next city over, but these scales were very overpriced, and I refused to pay that much for a single scale that couldn’t be used for anything else! On Amazon, I eventually found the Ultrascale MBSC-55 Digital Baby Scale and the Health O Meter Grow with me Teddy Bear Scale, and I couldn’t be happier! Both of the scales were under $90, and came with features that I could easily use for other things around the home, or for my other children.
Since these scales came from Amazon, I was also able to enjoy the fact that they were shipped right to my door and came with Amazon’s 365 day return policy. For a busy mom like me, this was absolutely perfect, especially since I wasn’t for sure if I was going to like either of these scales!
