Parent Review of the Graco Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor

Graco Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor
It always amuses me how many of my friends come to me asking for advice with baby products. It is good to know that they value my opinion, and I always love supporting companies who make great products. I have had my ups and downs with products over the years, and I always try steering my friends clear of the really bad products on the market. Over the last month, I have had a great deal of fun helping my good friend set up her nursery for her new adopted baby. While her budget has been a bit of a challenge, it has allowed me to find some great products that are perfect for new mothers, many of which I wish I knew were available when I had my first child!

While I was on a search for a new baby monitor for myself, my friend asked me to help her find one as well. Like many new mothers I know, she has been reading all the horror stories online about SIDS. I remember being terrified of it when I first came home from the hospital with my eldest daughter, and remember all too well how overwhelming it was for me as a new mom. Even though she was on a tight budget, she was determined that she needed a good baby monitor. After reading some other reviews online and doing some research, I came across the Graco Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor. After deciding it was worth the risk, I put it in the cart on Amazon along with the 2.8″ Motorola Digital Video Baby Monitor with a Color LCD Screen.

Wanting to see how it worked, I decided to test the Graco Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor during nap time for a week with my son. Here is what I discovered about the Graco Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor.

Quality of the Graco Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor

One of the first things I noticed right off the bat about the Graco Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor was how crystal clear the monitor sounded. I was amazed that the monitor could pick up even the tiniest of noises in my son’s room, allowing me to hear his cute little baby sounds as he slept and self soothed. I was expecting for the price that the monitor wouldn’t be able to pick up much noise of my baby, but it does an excellent job!

For extra security, the baby monitor has eight different channels to keep it from interfering with other electronics in your household. I did not have any issues with it having problems in my house and worked well alongside our Motorola monitor. As well, the monitor has an out of range indicator, letting you know if you are accidentally moving out of the wireless range of the parent unit. The monitor only goes off when I go down to my basement.

It was also nice that the Graco Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor worked right out of the box. It took about Graco Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitorfive minutes of setup, and came with pre-charged rechargeable batteries for all of the parent units. The only catch with the setup is the mattress sensor. If you have a slatted crib, you are going to need to put a board underneath the mattress.

Now, the most important question is how well do the parent units withstand impact. I will freely admit that I am a klutz. I have dropped the unit multiple times on the kitchen floor, and so far have not had any issues with it breaking or losing sound quality. If the Graco Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor can survive me, I am fairly certain it will withstand a toddler. The only thing I can’t guarantee is that it will survive being submerged in water. I wasn’t going to let my husband try, especially after he accidentally drowned our old parent unit in the toilet! Parents will also enjoy the fact that the base has a parent unit locator, in case they accidentally put down the parent unit and can’t remember where they placed it!

Safety of the Graco Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor

While many baby monitors want to load down the unit with features, the most important feature of any baby monitor is being able to detect an emergency. The Graco Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor sounds an alarm if it does not detect movement from your baby in twenty seconds. While I luckily didn’t have anything other than false alarms, I had read online about a few instances where this monitor saved a baby’s life. One by giving a parent the warning they needed to call paramedics, and another scaring their baby awake when they stopped breathing. As a parent, I considered this basic feature ideal for any new parent, especially one who is constantly checking on their baby throughout the night.

My one fear with the unit was the fact that many parents complained about the unit going off constantly. I had two false alarms during the first week, but it seemed to be due to my son moving off the mattress sensor. That seems to be the number one cause of false alarms from what I had read. This was easy to fix, however, by moving the mattress sensor close to the area where my son preferred in his crib. As well, it is important for parents to remember to turn off the unit if they are changing the diapers. The unit will go off immediately once you pick up your baby, and it is very easy to hear throughout the house, to my husband’s dismay. This is another issue that is easy to fix, and just takes some adjusting by the parent.

Ease of Use of the Graco Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor

So far, the Graco Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor is very easy to use. All of the menus are very self-explanatory and anyone can pick it up without the instruction manual and understand how to use this baby monitor. Everything is done through the color LCD screen on each monitor. Since I know my friend is as klutzy as me, I tried using the monitor in bed without my glasses one night, just to see how the monitor would work (I only tested it one night, since we were also testing our new Motorola baby monitor). I could go through all the menus easily half asleep and without my glasses.

The Graco Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor also has some handy features that you usually only see on high-end baby monitors. For one, the nursery unit has a soft nightlight. This is especially useful once your baby hits those toddler years and prefers having a nightlight in their nursery. While it is a rather inexpensive feature, it is pretty handy for new parents. What I was really impressed to see on this inexpensive baby monitor was a room thermometer. The Graco Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor was able to detect the temperature in my nursery by about three to five degrees, making it fairly accurate for a baby monitor. I read that the monitor gets more accurate if you give it time to adjust to temperature differences, something that is a bit hard right now in my household with the weather constantly changing between spring and winter conditions!

In the Box

  • Mattress Sensor
  • Nursery Unit Transmitter
  • 2 Parent Unit Receivers
  • 2 Charging Bases
  • AC Adapter
  • 4 AAA Rechargeable Batteries

What Others Think of the Graco Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor

So far, I am really impressed with the Graco Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor. I really wish I knew of a product like this when I had my first child, especially with how scared I was about SIDS. Now, my good friend can get some extra sleep, knowing she doesn’t have to worry about her baby during naps and bedtime. So far, my friend and myself aren’t the only ones who love the Graco Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor. On Amazon,, it has a 4.6 out of 5 star rating, making it one of the most popular baby monitors online. Here is what others are saying about this baby monitor.

” Very good product- no false alarms at all so far, and the sound monitor is crystal clear ( no statics, no noise)- just perfect!
The parent monitor has a moving image tha shows the baby is breathing- which is very reassuring when you wake up in the middle of the night to check on your baby.
I would suggest to the manufacturer of the product that the parent monitor could show the temperature also in Celsius, and that the parent monitor could have a clock( very useful to quickly check the time when your baby wakes crying during the night). It’s quite heavy to take on the go, but overall it’s an excellent product.
Would highly recommend it.”
” I have used one of these since they were first made. I have four grown children now having babies, and the first thing we do when we find out they are expecting their first child is to go out and buy one of these. Having lost a child to SIDS, there was no way I was going to let my grandchildren come home from the hospital without one of these in their crib. Worth every penny!”
I am a grandma who babysits my grand-daughter regularly. The baby monitors that detect sound are better than nothing, but I needed to know the baby was breathing. I lost a lot of sleep when my kids were little and I was not able to sleep when my grand-daughter stayed the night. This product does what it advertises and means that I don’t have to go down and check the baby every 15 minutes to make sure she is still breathing. It took some getting used to (I just have to look at the little metronome to see that movement is detected…she’s breathing), but my stress level has gone down and I can sleep when the baby sleeps over. There have been no false alarms, its easy to set up, and I like the fact that the unit can be recharged-the sound unit I had was using batteries like crazy-and a charge on the unit lasts over 24 hours. The cost is a little high compared to the sound only units, but it is worth its weight in gold as far as I am concerned. It will be the monitor I will recommend to anyone who asks and will probably be my shower present from now on.
” This is the best baby monitor you can buy. The audio quality is excellent, but the real deal is the movement sensor. I am able to sleep soundly knowing that my baby is breathing/moving through the night. The parents’ units have a movement indicator. If you forget to turn off the monitor when you remove your child from the crib (or if the child stops breathing/moving), a loud alarm sounds. It definitely works and our whole family is impressed. I would have paid untold sums of money for the peace of mind this monitor gives. It’s a bargain!”
